Formal notification is hereby made that Mr.Jeff Winter, good burgher of Stockton, has been appointed to officiate the forthcoming footballing fixture between the players of Newcasle United and the visitors of Coventry City.

I might as well stay in bed and not bother getting up to listen to the BBC World Service for this one then. B%ll%x and double b%ll%x.

Could be worse, we could have had Urine Rennie

Rennie officiated at the Liverpool v Crystal Palace game last night and didn't hand out a single yellow or red card and was praised for his game. A new dawn?

Rennie SHOULD have used the card last night. His incredibly incosistent performances are why he was relegated from the Premiership list.

Thanks Loony, ruin my day why don't you?!

Why did Rennie consider Gerrard's two footed assault wasn't worth a red in view of his understanding of the use of the red card in the past?

I don't think he even got a yellow card, did he?

THIS is the problem with referees right now. There is certainly an issue of lack of consistency, but there is also an apparent lack of discrimination between trivial offences - which are attracting yellow, and even red cards (eg YKD's at WHL) - and career-threatening, over-the-top tackles, two of which we have seen in the last few days have not attracted as much as a single yellow.

I find the standard of officiating in the PL frightening, and detrimental to the standard of the game and its enjoyment as a spectacle.
