Jonno made a very good point on the Shearer thread (?) about songs for people other than Shearer.

When I've been to away matches the songs are quite exclusive for Shearer and Lee when they are playing. I once heard a muttering of a song for Goma but it never really caught on.

Players like Goma, Dyer and Solano should be the subject of a few songs and perhaps if they were players like Goma would feel more at home at the club.

I realise that it is pretty hard to start off anything on here but something needs to be done, doesn't it?

How's about a D-Ream's all time classic,

Please don't Go(ma) for Alain?

You know the way Arsenal fans sing 'Viera oho hoho', that could be tailored to 'Solano oho hoho'. Shame they got to it first really I prefer originality.

I love the Solano-wo-oh song and I think it was Dean Martin who got there first. Let's use it.

Goma would go well to that ole ole ole ole -ole ole song that was sung interminably by the Irish at a World Cup.

Kieron Dyer. I guess it has to be "One Kieron Dyer, There's only etc". I mean it can't be "Same old Dyer - Always scoring" can it (for more than reasons than one) :-)

You have the advantage of me there Kegsy as my Gramophone has been missing it's winder these many years and you can't buy the old cylinders anyway - would that be the same song as sung by Van Morrison and Them in the mid 60's? Good song - (pause while screen wavers and goes monochrome for a flashback) - yes I remember - there wasn't much entertainment in those days and we would sit around the fire, if there was any furniture left to burn, singing happily - and taking LSD.

Using the Queen classic 'Another one bites the dust' who everyone knows so it's got a chance.

Giving Solano some credit where due.

"Dun, Dun, Dun, Solano provides the cross,

Dun, Dun, Dun, Solano provides the cross,

And another goal scored, And another goal scored

Solano provides the cross" It would be interesting to see how often this would get sung.

As I've mentioned before, a gleeful chorus of "We all agree Aaron is better than Rio" is planned for Elland Road. What rhymes with Peru,. BTW?

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2001

What tune is that to Dougal?

>>>>We all agree Aaron is better than Rio

I know the tune DB - it's the "Marshall is better than Yashin" tune but who the hell is Rio? :-)

There's a real dearth of decent songs around. I sing it sometimes, but the 'same old Shearer' one actually gets on my nerves, as the original Pompey Chimes ('Play Up Pompey, Pompey Play Up') is probably the most turgid football chant around. The last peopel to have a really good song about them were Andy Cole and Phillippe Albert. Even Sir Les, Tino, Daveed and Pedro didn't get much more than "There's only one ....." or just their names repeated.

I'm no chant composer, but with players with names like Nobby, Solano, Goma, Dyer, Griffin and Lua Lua you'd have thought something would be there. I loved the suggestion a while back on here using "Lua Lua so good they named him twice".

What about something taking the piss out of the fact that Shearer only has a song! Goma, Solano and Dyer

We would sing you a song too

But Shearer might get jealous

Coz he'd think that we only love you!!!!

Dunnnnnnnaaaaaaarrrrr.

"We've got Nol Solano, He doesn't come from Darlo He's from Peru He's out for you...."

hat. coat. door.

Discussed this with (BBS) Bobby in the pub on Sunday - he's got a Shola song up his sleave - I won't steal his thunder but he said he spent an afternoon on it...

[exit stage left leaving the floor open for Bobby]

taking up Gav's point...

we need another cup run and we can try to make sure that most of the BBS crew are sitting together. Then in the run up to the game, we can select a few from the suggestions and they can sing their hearts out. If they're good enough, people will pick up on them...

>>>>>probably the most turgid football chant around

I reckon that honour has to go to "Come on you Reds/Blues/Yellows". I think we're very lucky to play in such a colour that this one doesn't work for us.

Just to continue that last song - it went "Aye, aye aye aye Marshall is better than Yashin Wyn Davies is better than Eusebio And Manu are in for a thrashin"

They don't make them like that any more ... I wonder if any of the other oldies will adapt - let's see now :-

Marcellino knows my father ...

Not easy is it? Null points there I think. :-)

Here's a crap one but I'm still thinking. To the tune of Money, Money, Money.

Dyer, Dyer, Dyer

He's a Flyer

Ina Porn Stars World!

Not bad Deb....the simple ones are the ones that take hold!

This bloke who sits next to Jonno and me in the Gallowgate asked me who the monkey we were singing about was during the Makems game and what was the relevance of cockneys during the Man United game. Amazing.

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2001

I have tried to start Solano woah a few times at the match but few have joined in.

How about to the tune of louie louie by the Kingsmen

Lua Lua crosses the ball And Shearer scores

I know it's got shearer in it but you can put Dyer in there or Shola

After mty other efforts it will probably die a death

Dougal/Jonno: I hope you put the heavy blanket over him after the last game, it's cold sleeping in those stands from one weekend to the next you know.

What about "Louis Louis" (I don't know who does that one) for Lua Lua. You know the one.. Lua Lua Oh boy Away I go. Or sommat like "Lua Lua give him the ball and watch him go"

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2001

ITK
>>>>I hope you put the heavy blanket over him after the last game

I kid you not ITK, there was one time, can't remember the match, everyone very excited, atmosphere electric and the singing was even reaching my corner of the Gallowgate library. The guy sat resolutely silent prompting me to say - "Haway man - de ye not knaa the words - It's Newcastle, Newcastle, Newcastle". He was not amused but fortunately is smaller than me. ;-)

Martin - thanks for remembering 'Lua Lua, so good they named him twice', I'm justly proud of that one. The one drawback is obviously that LL seems to actually be a bit shit. Maybe if he actually scores a goal we could give it a go. Also, shame we didn;t buy Giles de Bilde...given the recent kids-TV-related number one, that one pretty much writes itself, doesn't it?

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2001

Sorry Bake I didn't see your posting before I put mine up about louie louie.

It could work though.

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2001

Jonno - I took my American boss to the Wimbledon game at Selhurst last year and he too looked blank at that song until I explained the simplistic nature of the lyrics - now it's his standard Geordie impression when he goes out.

To be fair he did have a hangover and the lad behind had just shouted "C'mon U Black 'n' White B@st@rds...you can beat these, they're sh'te" in his lughole.
