AF w/ 100-400 L IS + 1.4 & Elan 7E?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I believe the EOS 3 will autofocus with the 100-400 L IS and a 1.4X converter, but most other EOS models drop down to manual focus. How about the new Elan 7E? Is any autofocus possible with the 100-400 L IS and a 1.4X converter attached?

Thanks for any advice.

Elan 7 only autofocuses down to f:5.6. The 1.4X TC would make the zoom an f:8 lens so, officially, no, it wouldn't AF. But if you used an aftermarket TC (they don't report to the camera that the effective f:stop has been reduced), it would try and probably would succeed as long as there was suficient light & contrast.

Hi

The only EOS body that autofocuses at F8 is the Canon EOS 3. I use it with my 300F4 and 2x converter all the time.
