Universal Teleconverter for 50/1.4, 100/2.8, and 200/2.8?

This question was moved here from the unmoderated photo.net forum. I have a Canon EOS outfit including a 50/1.4 and 200/2.8. I was looking into teleconverters for the 200 to shoot wildlife and for macro/compression abstracts. The purchase of the canon 1.4x TC seems a no brainer. I know the resulting 280/4 is on the short side for wildlife, but it'll be a start.

Anyway, I got to thinking about the 2x TC and I was wondering about going with a Tamron 2x universal TC that could work with my 50/1.4 to become a fairly compact 100/2.8 USM for portraits and closeups. Furthermore if I get around to actually buying the 100/2.8 USM macro I could use the tamron TC for additional magnification (or working distance).

This boils down to three questions:
Can I expect reasonable performance from the 200/2.8 + Tamron 2x when stopped down?
Will the 50/1.4 + Tamron 2x make a workable portrait lens? Can I expect fairly decent autofocus performance since it maintains a 2.8 aperture and USM?
Is there any way to combine the Canon 2x with the 100/2.8 Macro USM? some diagrams of the lens configuration indicate there might be enough space for the TC protrusion, but maybe not at all focus settings. Maybe with a 12mm extension tube?

Thanks.
