Sigma lens for EOS 30

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I hope you expert guys can help me here

About a year ago, I bought a Sigma 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 DL Aspherical Hyperzoom Macro for my old EOS 10. With the lens range and price, I would say that I'm very satisfied with the quality of pictures that it produces.

I read somewhere(in this site also) that some 3rd party lens is not compatible with the latest EOS bodies.

My question is, since I planning to buy the new EOS 30 body, can I use my Sigma 28-200mm lens without any problem? Anybody who tried it already?

Thank you!!!

Vicky

I have the same Sigma lens and last June bought an EOS3, replacing my eos 10S, Familar situation, huh? My Sigma worked great with the 10S but with the 3, there were problems locking focus. I sent an email to Sigma and they told me to send it to them with a letter telling them I wanted the EOS3 upgrade for the lens (they also upgraded a 28- 70 at the same time). They did all this at no cost other than my shipping the lenses to them. The great thing is that the lenses still work with the 10s also. Contact them via email using their web site at www.sigmaphoto.com

Wow, you got an email response. Sigma has never responded to any of my emails or written letters. They only respond to my phone calls. BTW, the first half of my emails were only inquiries. They weren't nastygrams and they still didn't respond to those.

About half their lenses are not compatible with the EOS 30 or Elan 7, including my Sigma 24mm F2.8. The lens would not stop down. Check out http://www.sigmaphoto.com to see if yours is compatible.

They did upgrade my lens though, so it works fine. It took about 7 weeks.

The strange thing now is the AF logic on the lens is different. It uses the brake to slow down as it approaches the correct focus. It seems more accurate especially at macro distances, but it's a lot slower.

This lens is optically excellent and it's dirt cheap especially on the used market, so overall I am happy with it.
