Shearer on Sky last night

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

1) "The game on Sunday was dreadful - horrible to watch". 2) "I couldn't see where we'd get a goal". 3) " I didn't think Nobby's goal was that good but it looks good on telly". 4) "With injuries and suspensions, we'll struggle against Villa" and laugh at Andy Gray saying "so it'll be 1-0 to the Villa?". Who do you support, Al? However - he also said that Bobby needed some money to spend.

Shearer seems to talk about bringing in new players every time he gives an interview at length. It seems to me that Shearer is aware of who these players are and desperately wants them at the club.

It won't help Shearer's case if he is asking for money even before hetakes on the Manager's job!

Sorry but the more I think it, the more I think it'll be a major disaster if he is made manager this side of 2010.

You're right Dougal - Shearer's faourite manager is Daglish.

Like him or hate him Dalglish had certain qualities as a manager in terms of creating a 'team'. It's just the players he selected to be in the team that was the problem and the way they played!

As long as Shearer knows which qualities he should have from Keegan, Dalglish and Robson and finds the right combination he should succeed.

Whether or not this is at Newcastle is questionable, as we can see!

Heh heh. Yes with our luck he will have picked up the defensive formation and tactical nous of Keegan, the charisma and eye for a decent buy of Dalglish, and the memory for team members of Robson. Throw in the man management skills and hairstyle of Gullit and the nightmare scenario is complete!

Frightening really ...

If i was big fat Freddie, rather than perfectly proportioned MacB, I'd be taking Robson and Shearer aside and saying "Bobby this young man is to be your successor, he still wants to play while he can but his legs are getting less and less able to cope. Your role between now and two or three years time is to convince the lad he should not be playing and convince me he should be manager".

"Big Fat Freddie" has already told him that Mac.

Very good Jonno! :0)

Shearer already seems to have Dlaglish's handling of the press attribute. What he needs now are:

Keegan's motivation and appetite for the game and attacking football. Also his eye for a player who will play in a certain system.

Dalglish's press relations and protection of his players, not much else!

Gullit's coaching ideas and eye for a player, not his man- management.

Robson's tactical ability, his enthusiasm for the game and his values about football.

What a manager that would be and we have the perfect opportunity to make it happen, something tells me that Shearer is too much his own man to make it happen.

Well if you believe this amazing story we can't have Gregory!!! REPORTS from Italy have suggested that John Gregory may be a surprise target for Lazio, as they look for a long-term successor to Sven Goran Eriksson. The respected Gazetta dello Sport claims that the Rome club will meet up with Gregory later in the week to discuss a possible move to Italy.

Such reports would seem unlikely as the current Serie A champions would be expected to go for a coach with a more proven track record.

However, the Gazetta claims that Gregory's "fluent Italian and ability to work with players" has brought him to the attention of the Lazio board and chairman Sergio Cragnotti in particular.

Dino Zoff has agreed to take over at the Olympic Stadium until the summer of 2002, moving from his previous role as vice-president, although he may well step aside if the club decide to go for a long- term appointment.

One would imagine that such a job offer would be impossible to resist for Gregory - especially with his apparently deterioarating relationship with Villa chairman Doug Ellis - but whether Lazio move for the former Wycombe boss remains to be seen.

Gregory is not the first English-based coach to be linked with the job at Lazio, as the biancoceleste are known to be long-term admirers of Arsene Wenger.

Indeed, the fact that Zoff is scheduled to take charge of Lazio until the end of the 2001/2002 season, the same time that Wenger's contract expires at Arsenal, is sure to lead to speculation over the coming months that The Gunners boss could be heading for Rome.
