subscription vs newsstand purchase

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

i'm curious how many people subscribe, and how many purchase countryside mag from the newstand-bookstore-etc.

i've been reading for about 5 or 6 years and i have carefully saved and savored each issue. i did subscribe for a year, but have been buying off the newsrack, 'cuz i never seem to have enough funds to order a subscription whenever i happen to think of it. i have NEVER had any problem finding this publication in oklahoma city, since we have a plethora of bookstores-news stands-grocers-etc selling it

I have subscribed since the middle 80's this time. Years back subscribed to the Small Stock Journal. I like it to come to my house because I don't live near a bunch of places I could buy it. If you subscribe 3 years at a time it is a lot cheaper in the long run, and since cheap is my middle name according to my children I subscribe 3 years at a time.

We started out buying it off the news-stands, then subscribed -- I've got to get our renewal off -- am renewing for three years this time.

Subscribed in the 70's.Stopped and chased the dollar in the early 80's Subscribed again in the late 80's and continue to do so. Stop feeding your wife and children for a week and use the money to subscribe.:>)

Been a subscriber for over 10 years now and can't even imagine not subscribing.

I usually buy it off the newstand since we keep forgetting to send off a subscription! Sometimes I find older copies of countryside at our librarys magizene recycle rack. That is how I found Countryside in the first place.

I've only been getting the magazine for about 10 years. My subscription is still good for a few more years. I re-renewed once and now can forget about it for a while!

I've subscribed for over 3 years. Been reading for around 7 years and have many old issues. They are some of my favorite reads in the winter!

We subscribe & have for many years/ we also subscribe for our children as gifts/ & this last year/ was the first year I haven't subscribed as a gift for my pen pal(in Canada). I met many, many years ago through Countryside when she wrote in for a recipe on how to make wine?????(this year she needed something else, so I did that instead of a subscription).

We are paid up for a while yet & would not think of not subscribeing!!!! Sonda in Ks.

Wife and I have been a subscriber since 98 or 99 (y2k concern). Also buying as many older ones from yardsales, freinds of the library, etc. to complete my reference shelf.

Subscribe. The local news stand stopped carrying it. Kinda liked buying it at the news stand though, as it gave me an excuse to see if there was any other mags that caught my eye that month.

We have subscribed since the 70's.

-- Barbara Fischer (bfischer42@hotmail.com), January 09, 2001.

Have subscribed for 14 or 15 years now. We live so far beyond the sidewalks that I don't think that I have ever seen a copy on a newsstand...

-- Ed Copp (OH) (edcopp@yahoo.com), January 09, 2001.

Never seen it on a newsstand. Never subscribed. The Web site doesn't say how I COULD subscribe. Of course, that's for me in Australia. Instead, I buy somewhat similarly-oriented Australian magazines (Grass Roots, Earth Garden, Owner-Builder).

Dan and I have also been subscribers since the 70's. It was through Countryside that I,too, met my very dear friend Sandy Ericson. She had asked a question about a non electric item, I answered it and found out that we shared a lot in common and have became very close friends as a result. I couldn't thank Countryside enough for bringing us together and can't imagine not having such a wonderful magazine coming to my house.

Countryside is our top priority subscription - will always keep it as long as we are able to. For two years we borrowed the library's copy but there were always so many articles that we wanted to keep that a subscription was a must!

Bought a couple copies at the newsstand, then subscribed. I'm too bad at remembering to get it regularly.

Could subscribe...never miss an issue....choose to support our local bookstore as they regularly carry it. Wish more people would support the little guy!

-- Deb in WI (laroux@discover-net.net), January 14, 2001.

Deb, I, too, support all of the little guys I can around here. Will only step into Wallyworld for the freebies and occasionally to make a "pit stop" if we're travelling.
