Explosion, Power Outage Leave Several Dangling in Stuck Elevators

It started with manhole explosion on 41st Street, which led to a power outage at 370 and 380 Lexington Avenue.

One of the people trapped in an elevator says she didn't feel afraid until the people on the car realized that they were trapped between floors, and there was no easy way for fire crews to get them out; they'd have to cut through the walls of the elevator.

It took over an hour, but everyone got out safely, if covered in dust.

Con Edison was on site early this evening trying to restore service. There's no word on how long that will take. There was a similar problem in the area last week.
