Radio Newcastle webcast now on-line

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

If like me your out of earshot of the radio waves, you can now listen to hourly Radio Newcastle news bulletins from the Promised Land at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/tyne/
You even get to hear the last minute or so of Northumbrian pipes or Frank Wappatt, if you're lucky/unlucky, before they go over to the news. I am trying to persuade them to put a Look North on-demand video webcast on too, so send them an e-mail if you think it would be a good idea.

Thanks for the info. I've often wondered of late - in this age of seven trillion digital TV channels - why exiled Geordies, for example, can't have access to regional news/sports progs of BBC North East and Tyne Tees?

Know ITV would be concerned about their advertisers (wrong people watching wrong ads in wrong regions etc) but, compared to some of the minority stuff on digital, there must be some sort of market for access to one or two local progs a day? And this is 2001!

I asked when METRO FM were going online and received this back:

Hi Tony! Thank you for your email regarding live streaming of Metro Radio. Over the next few weeks, the website will be expanding to include all sorts of new features and gizmos and you'll be glad to hear that streaming will be included. I don't have a precise date for this, but all I can say is watch this space! We also asked about receiving regional BBC TV by satellite. I don't have one, but my friend in Germany receives a "generic" verion of the 1830 BBC1 local news which comes after the national half hour bulletin (i.e. at the time that Look North should be on). Apparently it is absolutely feasible but the problem is money - it's not one of their priorities and apparently it requires installing some very expensive satellite transmitter component. Nevertheless it can't be insurmountable and when you hear of all the minority interest rubbish channels that seem to be available on satellite (for instance MUFC TV or whatever they call it!) I hope it's not long before they get up and running with regional TV and radio, especially North East. Maybe they need more of us to pester them , so pass the message on!
