300TL repair service

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

My 300TL quit working. There was no physical damage or reason. It seems as if some component burned out. No indicator lights or sound of cycling are evident. Correct new batteries have been tried. Has anyyone experienced who might be able to repair this unit. Lloyd

I only just found the FD forum (duh!) but requests for T90 repair sources are sprinkled throughout. (Some even have answers.)

Some advice: Clean the contacts in the battery compartment well, with a small 'tweaker' screwdriver or pen knife, if need be and also put the unit tight up against your nose and take a long, slow, deep sniff. If something scorched, the smell should be pretty recognisable. The difference between clean electronics and tiny toasted plastic bits is often night and day. Blow your nose and clean your hands well first so that won't throw you off. (No, I'm not kidding!)

I fix my own stuff but I'm out of my mind in that regard and in good conscience I can't offer to abuse someone else's gear.
