Quinn loan signing confirmed

Newcastle United boss Bobby Robson has confirmed that Sheffield United's £1.5million-rated wing-back Wayne Quinn has agreed a one-month loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer.

Quinn was in the crowd at St James' Park to watch the Magpies draw 1-1 with Aston Villa in their third round FA Cup tie and Robson sees the youngster as a replacement for AWOL Frenchman Didier Domi.

"He's here for a month's loan with a view for us to make a decision," Robson said. "He was left out yesterday of the team and we will play him.

"We need a left-footer. Domi is the Scarlet Pimpernel at the moment and I don't know when we're going to find him. But we can't wait for him, so it's to replace Didier."

Club: Sheffield United Shirt Number: 3 Position: Defender Date of Birth: 19.11.76 Birthplace: Truro Height: 5' 10"

Cornish left-sided defender/midfielder who has never lived up to the expectations following his first magnificent season under Spackman. Joined the club at 14 and broke into the first team in the friendly against Blackburn in 1997, keeping Roger Nilsen out of the team for the remainder of the season. Recovered from a winter injury to make himself the hero in the Coventry shoot-out but since has gone downhill and has been a liability on many occasions with his inability to mark. Played last few games of 99-00 on the left side of midfield and despite being an excellent crosser of the ball constantly frustrates fans by refusing to take on the full back. Quinny scored his first goal of the season on the last day and is another that needs to work hard on his game over the summer to keep his place in the team.

......................................................................

A versatile, all round player with a sweet left foot. Played in central midfield as an apprentice but has since been used in a wider role. Made his debut on the opening day of the 97-98 season against Sunderland in a left wing-back role. After impressing in United's fine start to the season, Quinn was rewarded with a call-up to the England U-21 squad. Soon after he agreed an improved 3-year contract

..................................................................... A youngster who has burst through the ranks at Bramall Lane and is reported to be attracting the attentions of some Premiership scouts. An attacking left-back who has been a virtual ever present in the starting line-up for the last two seasons and has been in similarly consistent form in this campaign.

Has played for England B and U21 line up and was even called up to Glenn Hoddle's squad in 1998 after an impressive string of performances in Blades' cup run in 1997-8.

A few approaches have been made for the West Country boy but as yet he is yet to move up the Premiership.

Has fallen down in the reckoning since his initial breakthrough. .................................................................... After an uncertain start to the 1999-2000 season when he was not selected by Sheffield United on some occasions, Wayne’s performances as a left-sided wing back improved after the arrival of new manager Neil Warnock. His defensive play was better and he was a much greater threat coming forward, regaining something of the form of two seasons ago. He has the ability to beat a man and his searching centres produced many penalty area incidents, ensuring that he was high on the “goal assists” list. Despite his hard shot, his only goal was in the penalty shoot-out at Rushden

Would agree with you if we had bought him, but he's on loan so cost's nowt......I don't think we even have to pay the whole of his wages, I think SU still pay most.

Domi was last spotted sneaking away from the Coogee area of Sydney with one Loony Toon in the early hours of last night. Rumours that the aforementioned Loony Toon was suffering from a bout of Timmy Tired Eyes are so far unconfirmed.

Hi Nick - nice try ;o)) but actually I didn't make it to Andy's to watch the Villa match due to reasons posted on the "Hiro, videos in plain envelopes & prowler" thread. Gutted to miss the game, though glad to hear it wasn't a thriller.

BTW, do you have an email address yet that I can add to my list - the one above looks a bit shifty maybe !?
