Question on players nationality?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

OK, can some one please explain what passports the following players hold: Solano, Bassedas, Acuna, Cordone, Lua Lua and Ameobi.

Becuase I thought there was some rule saying only 3 non-EU players could be on the pitch at any one time and I'm sure we've at least 4 of these players or a couple of combinations of 4 these players on the pitch at one time.

I'm pretty sure LuaLua and Ameobi will have British passports Tre. Not sure about the others, although I think there is some ruse with Spanish dual-nationality that comes into play with some South Americans.

I thought Bassedas has dual-nationality (Argentinian-Italian ?). A lot of South Americans playing in Spain and Italy conveniently discover ancestory that permits them to claim EU citizenship. How many of these are legitmate is open to question. Italian officials recently concluded Verons claim on dual-citizenship was founded on suspect documents (handy for Lazio picking him with 3 non-EU players) and its unlikely he's alone. Hopefully this isn't true for any of our lads.

Solano,(Peruvian needs WP) Bassedas(Arg /Italian, no WP needed), Acuna (Chilean needs WP), Cordone (Arg / Italian no Wp), Lua Lua and Ameobi, both British, but could claim to be Zairian and Nigerian, if they fail to make the England International team. I put a question on my web site last week after reading thae the whole of the BOCA JUNIORS youth team have Italian passports. How is this?

I thought Acuna also carried a Portugese passport, thus making him exempt.
