Wayne Quinn?

I'm sure this lad is a left back which would seem a logical replace for Domi. This lad has been touted for a couple of years now and we almost bought him but he got injured.

The Long Term Future: Griffin and Quinn as full backs, suits me?

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has admitted he has been in touch with Portsmouth over a possible swap deal involving Wayne Quinn.

However, Portsmouth chief scout Andy Awford hinted that Quinn is set to reject a move to Fratton Park in favour of joining Premiership Newcastle.

Portsmouth enquired about Quinn's availability last week and a deal was struck between the club's which could have taken Lee Bradbury and £400,000 to Bramall Lane.

But a late bid from Newcastle, and Bradbury's reluctance to move north for the second time in his career, appear to have scuppered the transfer.

"We inquired about Quinn and they then asked about Bradders, that's why the two have been coupled together," said Awford.

"But it looks like Quinn could be going to Newcastle now. You couldn't blame him for going there rather than a first division club."

Warnock said the two clubs will be talking again after the weekend, although Bradbury is adamant that he would prefer to stay on the south coast.

Warnock commented: "I spoke to Portsmouth over the week and they are interested in Wayne but at this moment in time there will be nothing done over the weekend and we will speak again next week."

However, Bradbury said: "I don't want to go. I'm settled down here in my home town and want to stay at the club.

"I might not be scoring at the moment but every striker goes through these spells. It might have all changed for me in a couple of games' time."

Pompey boss and skysports.com columnist Steve Claridge is still hopeful of concluding a deal for Quinn after a hectic week on the phone in an effort to strengthen his squad.

Claridge said: "We don't know what will happen at the moment and we're still waiting to hear back from Sheffield United."

It's some considerable time since this lad played so brilliantly against us - I think it was the FAC semi against the Blades at OT. He certainly looked a top prospect that day.
I remember being really impressed by their fans that day - unusually, they give us a real challenge.

After all this time, I wonder who is still championing Quinn's cause at SJP - John Carver, or one of the senior pros perhaps (AS, RL?).

I thought he was all set to sign and then failed a medical. If that was the case, i can hardly see us going back in for him two years later. Especially worrying is that no-one else is reported as being interested- apart from another 1st division team.

Surely somebody would've taken the risk. Suggestion seems to be that he wouldn't be ablr to cope with the pace or physical aspect of the Premier League.......hang on......he'd be PREFECT for us....:))

Sounds like they're just talking 'up' the transfer fee to me...
