Elizabeth in the surgery?

I was wondering what the likelyhood would have been that Elizabeth would have been allowed in the surgery? It just seemed so easy for her to go in, however in the past (and I believe in real life) family members have not been allowed in without some pleading (I'm thinking of the deaf doctor and her grand daughter in season 5). While I liked this episode (like Mars Attacks, thought I would hate ended liking a lot more than I thought), it would have been interesting (as they were going with the whole patient thing) to see Elizabeth waiting, or for them to insist that she not be present in the surgery. However, I did like the way it was done. Both Anthony Edwards and Alex Kingston were just phenomenal. I may think brain tumor storyline is uncreative, but the two of them have made it interesting.

I wondered that too. How realistic was it for her to be there? In some ways she was helpful like when Mark needed his glasses. But in other ways she seemed to be in the way. You could he woman doctor who was asking Mark the questions was getting a little angry with her interference. Then the look on her face when Dr. Burke pulled out the tumor -- well, it could not have been good for Mark to see that. Of course, we wouldn't have had the cute conversation without baby names if she wasn't in there. But does anyone know if this would be allowed in real life?

I don't know anything about how realistic it was that Elizabeth was allowed in surgery, but maybe since they're both doctors they made an exception. However, if I had to undergo a surgery as dangerous as Mark's one (especially the fact that you're awake all the time!), I would want my partner/ spouse/ fiancee/ friend or else to be with me, too!

I was wondering this too. It seemed to help him stay focused though (having her there). It did seem a little weird though.
