Non-working Minox 35 GT - worth repairing?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Someone just gave me a non-working Minox 35 GT. It looks OK except that its battery compartment cover is missing. I'm not familiar with the Minox; is this camera model battery dependent (which is why it isn't working?), and does parts for the camera still available? Is it worth spending up to, say, USD150 to get it fixed? Thanks for your answers in advance.

The camera has an electronic shutter, so it needs the battery cover (I stack (4) LR44 batteries in my 35EL to make up the required 6 volts).

The shutter may work once you put power to it. If not, it's fairly simple and may not cost too much to fix. For a repacement cover, I'd contact the folks at www.minoxlab.com and see if they have them in stock. The 35EL (very similar, I believe) is a very handy though not super-rugged camera that you can always have with you - without the hassles of getting submini film processed.

Dear Rick, many thanks for your useful response; I found exactly what I needed in the minoxlab website--powerpack for GT with new door (new battery compartment insert with cover to replace the one for mercury batteries) and replacement batteries--and had them ordered on line. Thank you very much for your help and advice!
