Ok, We still live in town :>( hopefully once we get things straightened out in a couple years we can look into getting out of this town I have been trying to keep bees, but the past couple years ive lost both hives i start out with. this last time i think it was spray damage. next year i want to start 3 hives maybe i can keep one alive through the next year. I am trying my hand at mead this year. and a little melomel, well see if its drinkable or not. the stuff I tried before was good hope mine turns out ok. Im hoping to make a recumbent bike to ride to work with. I drive a mixer for a living and ive gaind a few to many pounds for my liking. My wife likes doing differnt craft items she has about a dozen quilts in various states of completion. she is not able to do much now she is feeling very prego at this point, and she has a ways to go yet. Well, I seem to of said more then just hi. Owell Hiya, Mike

Welcome to the family! Nothing wrong with being in town. When I lived in an apartment I grew 14 different crops in containers on a 15 x 15 patio, made wines and raised my own fishing worms. Even now, in the country , we only have 1 acre. You can "Countryside" anywhere you are and if you do it in town, maybe you can "infect" your neighbors :) Wish you luck on your mead. It took me 3 tries to make some that was paletable. But it was fun doing it. Keep us posted

Hi Mike and family, congratulations on your "baby on the way"! Welcome to the forum, we're pleased to have you join us. Always room for a few more plates at the table!!

WELCOME Mike and family. One thing I've learned from this forum is that where there's a will there's a way!! I've read and /or chatted with folks trying everything from salvaging old tin roofing and building with pallets to finding copies of long lost recipes and "solving" some of the worlds larger problems. Wherever you are there you are.Do what you can. We're on a little over an acre here in WNY, we have our own fruit trees, grapes , many berries , a large garden, chickens for lay, eggs for sale, two budding young home businesses, all the flowers one can imagine for my wife to cut and use/sell, plans to ultimately begin raising our own meat, and more work than we know what to do with sometimes, so I come here and find I'm not the only one in that boat. I never spend a trip here that I don't learn something, so kick off yer shoes and sit a spell , ya hear??? enjoy!!!

Welcome, and do not hesitate to ask any question. That's not quite right - do not hesitate to ask for advice. Still not right - do not hestitate to ask for help in those areas that have to do with homesteading, animals, crops, cooking, etc. No, no! Not THAT sort of animal! Only what you find here. You can, of course, find an expert on ANY subject on this forum, but we prefer to be polite and demure. Well, except for Joel and I, anyway! Good Luck!

Mike,

Welcome. I am also a new comer but have had a lot of experience. In the suburbs, in the country (a certified organic farm) back in the suburbs and about ready to retire again to the country. I can't wait.

I still do a lot of what I did in the country except for the animals and a big garden. But you can have that peace and freedom anywhere. It is a frame of mind. It is also something to work and strive for.

Again. Welcome and congratulations on the impending arrival.
