love songs that aren't slow

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

I'm making a Valentine's Mix cd and tried to do all "love" songs. After about the third time of falling asleep, I decided to go a different route. Now, I'm looking for songs about love that aren't necessarily slow. I don't care what genre or what decade. Just fun love songs. hints? suggestions??

Terrible at names for songs... but you know that one: "Don't know much about geography, don't know much trigonometry" etc etc (lyrics may be slightly wrong) which is basically about how he might not know that book larnin' stuff but does know that he's in love with his honey. That one immediately came to mind. Also how about some fun older songs like "Hello Mary Lou" or "Eight Days a Week", etc? I'll probably think of a dozen more as soon as I submit this.

I'm partial to "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" (I have *no* clue who sang it) and also Stevie Wonder's "You Are the Sunshine of My Life." I like "My Cherie Amour" too but it's not appropriate for every relationship...:)

I think "Brown Sugar" by D'Angelo is a sexy song...not too slow, but slow enough to dance to...umm...how about "Kiss" by either Prince or Tom Jones for camp value?

God, I am making myself sound like more and more of a dork, the longer I ramble. Good luck, Gardanna...

Susan - that song you are referring to is "What a Wonderful World It Would Be."

Gardana - How about: Rickie Lee Jone's "Chuck E's in Love" and Melissa Etheridge's "Come to My Window" and Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" and Joe Cocker's "I'm Your Man" and Bonnie Raitt's "Love Me Like a Man" and John Cougar Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane" and Phoebe Snow's "Two Fisted Love" and Rod Stewart's "Maggie" and Paul Simon's "Love Me Like a Rock" and Karla Bonoff's "Personally" and Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Pride and Joy" and The Newbeats "Bread and Butter" and Aretha Franklin's "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" and Meatloaf's "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" and Zucchero "Feels Like a Woman" ... Whew. Damn. I am going to go listen to some music now.

Yay Marisa! I thought that title was a possibility but didn't want to get it confused with the Louis Armstrong song. Oh and how about Chantal Kreviazuk's "Before You", which is a very happy sort of love song. :)

How about, "You're Great But I Think I Left The Oven On", by the Wandelles. Or, "I Just Called (From My Handphone) To Say I --- More Than --- World --- Huh? I Didn't Catch --- No --- No --- What? You're Breaking Up" by Billy Nolan. Both really catchy and twitchy love songs from the golden age of music.

I like "Everlasting Love," the version by U2. Gloria Estefan has also covered this song in her usual dance-style.

'Our song' is "You're My Best Friend", by Queen. I think it's the best love song ever.

"Closer" by NIN-I think "I want to fuck you like an animal" says "I love you" like nothing else...well, it says something anyway. Leonard Cohen's version of "Always", but it's a little slow-bluesy. And, of course, "Supernova" by Liz Phair.

This is fun, has everyone here seen the movie High Fidelity (or read the book)? That movie really my partner and I going on Top 5 whatever lists.

My husband is partial to 'Lovers in a Dangerous Time', the 'Barenaked Ladies' version. I hate to admit it, but I am rather fond of Shania Twain's 'No one needs to know'.

Robyn, I saw "High Fidelity" and loved it. Now I make Top 5 lists all the time. Damn them moviemakers!

I am rather fond of "Sex on Wheels" by My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult.

When I think about you I touch myself. I don't remember who sings it...it starts w/ a D.

That's "Divinyls."

"Bad, Bad Boys" by Miami Sound Machine (Gloria Estavan)

"Heat Wave!" Martha and the Vandellas

And my all time oldy-favorite (but I don't know who did it) "Just Like Romeo and Juliet"

Hey folks - first post here in Gwen's forum.

Crowded House's "That's What I Call Love" and "Something So Strong", "Kate" by Ben Folds Five, "Near Wild Heaven" by REM, "I've Been Waiting" by Matthew Sweet, "Sweet Pea" by Tommy Roe, "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) by Talking Heads, "Our Lips are Sealed" by the Go-Go's "Kiss and Make Up" by Saint Etienne - those are all pretty uptempo and lovey-dovey without being super sappy.

Have fun w/your mixtape compiling! Let us know how it turns out!

"#1 Crush" by Garbage, and "I Would Die 4 U" by Prince. There. Two suicidal, yet toe-tapping, selections.
