You know there's a real nice spot just to the NE of SJP where they could have built a brand new football stadium in a beautiful lanscaped area embracing that derelict areas called Castle Leazes, and that semi-derelict area called Leazes Park all - the way down to Gallowgate; thereby providing an extended City park area and a fatastic community amenity, fit for the new Millenium.
What's more they could probably have done it all for not more than about half of what they've paid to extend SJP - and even had few bob left over to be able to buy a couple of players to avoid that nice Alan Shearer having to play for so long when he was only 50% fit.

Nah, stupid idea that one: where do I get them from?

Bugger, bugger, bugger - "NW" of SJP is what I meant, of course(!!!!!)

Why have you posted a photo of a golf course?

Exactly my thoughts when I saw it Clarky.

In fact, godammit, there appears to be at least a dozen paddy fields within walking distance of the city centre where we could have located a spanking new footy temple at a fraction of the price. Who owns all of them ?

Re an alternative site for SJP, I understand the Castle Leazes development was planned at £91m, way in excess of our £55m expansion of SJP. I've no idea if this was the cost to NUFC alone or some would be borne by others such as the Council. Seems a huge figure.

"I can see the pub from 'ere". And my house, and my old school etc.

In the interview with FS, in the Ronnie it says that the club have spent over £100 million on the stadium since he has been at the club. So if we took on the whole £91 million we'd have nine million left to buy one Marcus Gayle and a Gareth Southgate with a South American left Winger thrown in for good measure.

Ah in an ideal world!

De Builder Re the £100m spend on the stadium, I reckon that at least £35m or so of that had been spent before the Castle Leazes development was mooted so we could not have made that saving. It is a pity that the Taylor report forced our hand on this one as I'm sure we could have had a less expensive solution than the one we have now.

If you use the other thread Look What I Found! and then follow Rik's link, you can actually zoom in on the various areas and pin point the area's you are interested in.

On the day the photo's were taken, my two brothers in Heaton must have been out as their cars are not there......you can get in that close!

-- Anonymous, January 04, 2001

Don't know whether you knew it Syme, but after standing empty for donkeys years the old Wills factory on the Coast Road has been converted into yuppy flats. It looks very nice now lit up at neet.

I'm glad they didn't knock it down as it really is an important landmark for us lerkal lads, like.

I think I knew about the old Wills factory being made into the new Yuppieville.

Has anyone been able to find their house on the map that Rik linked onto, I've been possessed by it all day and I keep gettin' lost. Plus some of the photographes look like they were takin' by accident they just dont make any sense. I try and follow the coast road to heaton road but I keep gettin bastard lost
