greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I just saw this "classic glass aladdin lamp" in real goods catalog and they are having a sale from the regular $139.95 to the sale price of $49.95 . I have not bought one or shopped for one but this price seemed pretty reasonable?! Anyway I thought I would pass it on if anyone is looking. Also they have a forum about alternative energy, enviroment, etc. I havent looked at it, but heres the address: www.realgoods.com/board

To order look at www.realgoods.com or phone 1-800-762-7325 Gdog in WI

Wow! That is a great deal! The price at Lehman's is 139.95 also. It's called a Lincoln Drape model among the collectors. I think they have made this model since 1974 but the company started making lamps in 1909. They are great lamps!

Before the Y2K scare, Lehman's store in Kidron carried the standard "classic" model for 49.95, and had sold it for that price, in their stores, for years. But even they profited from the Y2K scare, and cranked the price up to above 100 dollars for a 50 dollar item. It's a great lamp to have, at 50 dollars, wouldn't pay more than that though. I have several of their Aladdins here, even before the Y2K scare, the power goes out a lot here due to ice storms in the winter, you had better be prepared to be self sufficient for a week or two, just in case Mother Nature gets cranky.

I found an old Aladdin lamp at the garbage dump that has no chimney but the silver is in pretty good shape (a few minor dents) that has an 1800's date on it. I'll have to look again when I get home.
