JAN 3, 2001, M2 Communications - The Swedish bank Nordbanken, part of the pan-Nordic financial group Nordea, has experienced computer problems for the second time in a week.

Nordbanken's computer system broke down at noon yesterday, 2 January, and couldn't be brought back online until late in the night. The computer problems caused difficulties to the bank's customers who were unable to use their bank cards or transfer money through Nordbanken's Internet or phone service.

The cause of the breakdown has not yet been determined.

Hacker attack or Y2K-Bug

Hacker attack or Y2K-Bug The server of the Swedish north banks was longer time down. Thus it was to be executed not possibly banking transactions. The reason for these is embarrassing unclearly breakdown: Did the bank become victims shut of a hacker attack again or did slam the Milleniums bug? 3.5 million banking client made long expression, when they wanted on Tuesday to their cash. Because by this Crash neither financial transactions nor share deals, still possible for Telefonbanking, were as the Stockholm newspaper " Aftonbladet " reported yesterday. Fortunately at least the cash machines functioned. This was already the second breakdown with north banks, since it had briefly given problems before the change of year already once. North bank president Magnus Falk tried to calm its customers down, by promising remuneration for losses possibly resulting. With an escaped Aktiendeal might be able to be proven however with difficulty. To the reasons for the disaster asked, Falk wanted not to exclude a successful hacker attack. Another thesis makes however the Millennium bug responsible. But before clarity exists, the bank president wants to express itself not further. The Swedish state supervision of the banks required the " Aftonbladet " opposite a complete clearing-up. (PC WORLD, 04,01,2001, hc
