greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

hi. i just received a white long haired gold eye cat. i believe that he is a maine coon. i am not sure because i stopped a lady from giving him to the humane society (in my area they put adult cats down) and took him home with me. she says she thinks he is 6 years old. he is very heavy and has a meow that sounds more pathetic than a kitten. he resembles all of the maine coon cats that i have looked up on the internet. he does not liked to be picked up, but he is generally laid back if you leave him alone. he is front declawed and neutred according to the lady i received him from. i live in a one bed room apartment and i am not sure if he is happy here. any suggestions??????? thanks !!!!!!!!

Whether or not he is a maine coon, and technically a maine coon has papers, he may have been traumatized in his old home, and will need some time to adjust. Maine Coons are generally loving and playful, so you may want to get him a toy or two, esp. if you work all day and he is alone. My guy loves busy balls- those little plastic things with bells in them and I play with him with an old sock with a knot in it (he grabs, I pull; I drag it, he pounces, etc.) Make sure he is physically okay (take him to the vet) and then give him some time and something to do.Maine coons often love water, so he may like to play with the faucets if you turn them on for him. Soumds mainly as if he needs time to adjust. Good luck and good for you for rescuing him! Cynthia
