Older version of TMPGenc with MPEG2: where can one get it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I read that the older versions of the freeware program TMPGenc have MPEG2 conversion capabilities but that it wasn't included in the newer version because of some legal issues.

Where can one get that older version of TMPGenc?

I have only downloaded the files for version 12a and am very satisfied with it. I cannot tell you what the advantage of 12a would be over version 12.

Apart from some bug fixes in the 12 to 12a update the later version was extended to encode from MPEG source material, effectively 12 only did avi's. 12a was extended to accept DV Type 1 avi's as a source file as well. Some of us considered 12 to have a better image but that really was over riden by the above extensions. 12a is more tolerant in setting up the encoder, with 12 you did not always get what you expected if you did not follow a set procedure.

In the update to my web site I just taken off that sort of comparison information, pity! The setup procedure still exists on the SVCD web page.

In my view you are better off with 12a, you can get standard templates from my web site including DVD.
