When the past says "psst, over here..."

Hapy new year everyone- Just came back from NYC where I saw a show of prints by Eugene Atget, among other amazing sights- it made me go back and dig this one out; I had Atget in mind when I did this one last year on Minetta street- one of the very few complete views of old New York left. It wasn't deliberate, I just happened to be there, praying that a new Mercedes wouldn't come around the corner while I was focusing. CN400, 50m.

Ragman, Minetta Street, Greenwich Village 1999.

The air conditioners (2) kill it!! No, not really. Just bustin' yer chops a bit. Really nice photo. I like the old New York feeling. I just got back from a few days in NYC but didn't get a chance to see any neighborhoods... only 14 million people at any given time. Good work.

Oooh, nice. I like this onw. There is, perhaps, a bit much road in the bottom left corner (would portrait format have worked?) and it is, arguably, weak on the "people side", but I still like it very much. Thanks for sharing.

Is the show still on? Where is/was it?

Thanks, the Atget show is at the International center for Photography uptown, closing I think in Feb.

The ragman's the person, bowed along, as it were, by the stripling trees, just putting out their springtime blooms.... making his sunward journey for the ragman in all of us.... I like this more and more myself, actually.... that bicycle.... oh, la la!

I like this, and it's truly in the spirit of Atget, but he did not have people in his pictures that very often. I don't think that it had to be an ancient surrounding to get a photo to look "Atgetic" either. It's more a question of light and composition.
