castaway -- SPOILER!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

I just saw "Castaway". In the 30's and 40's she would have waited forever for him. In the 50's and early 60's she would have thought about it and then gone with him. But now she stays put. How do you feel about the ending? What would you have done? You can substitute any movie here. It's the morality and sensibility of the situation I'm asking about. And where's Milla when you want a detailed discussion or Floosie when you want...uh...uh...well where is she just the same? If I spoiled the movie for you...then get out and see the damn movies sooner ya couch potatoes. Or is that potatos? I forget since Danny boy tried spelling instead of governing. James

Jeez, James... not at all nice.

It is a good thing I saw this movie on Sunday, otherwise I would have been really pissed off at you, James. You could have at least named the topic "Cast Away" so that people know what you are going to talk about.

Ok, if a movie is out for, say, a decade, then I think it's totally reasonable to blurt out the ending in casual conversation. If, however, the movie has only been in theatres for approximately ten minutes, I think that you might want to be a little more choosy about giving it away.

Response to movies

Yeah, thanks. A lot. This movie just came to our area this weekend. I hardly think we deserve the epithet "couch potatoes" (at least not for this).

Can't this topic be deleted? That way no one else will have the movie ruined for them.

Response to movies

Not to pick on James, or anything, but I live in a small farming town on the prairie and we have one theatre, that gets one movie a week and the place is closed all holidays, a week at Christmas, Sundays and Mondays...you get it. And the movies we get are hardly current. Right before Xmas it was 'Bedazzled', so you see what I'm working with here. I'm not lazy, I just have no choice in the matter. I think the fastest turn-around we had was to get 'X-Men' in September. After school started. It's like being Amish or something.

I'm still not entirely sure how we managed to avoid hearing about the twist in 'The Sixth Sense.' Oh, I had townie friends who were all, 'Oh, my God! It's so good! You'll never guess what happens.....' and then TRY to give it away. Luckily, I was born blissfully thick, and never caught on. I heard about 'Fight Club' on the radio, and had no urge to see it, so no biggie there.

I'm sorry y'all. But the question's just too good to pass up. I won't give anymore away. Just wanna say. Didn't like the ending at all. I woulda left. Hated the very end too. High five, James!

Response to movies

Pretty dense there, James. My wife is a wheelchair-bound quad and cannot comfortably attend movies at a theater so we see all movies only after they come out on video. Further, I bet a lot of people missed openings of movies with the holidays, travel and year end business - which has nothing to do with being a lazy couch potato.

You'll love it on video none the less. Don't sweat it. When you see the movie then you'll know what I meant. The world won't end because of a question and hypothesis. James

Word, Steve. Not to mention those of us in Australia and other backward countries who *don't even have it in their cinemas yet*...

Response to movies

Ok, so here's a question. Has anyone out there NOT seen "Message In A Bottle"? I bring it up because it's a movie that I feel ends very poorly. I could rant & rave, but I don't want to ruin it for anyone. It was simply inhumane what they did with the ending. I was really pissed.

Response to movies

Laura, I tried to watch it on cable, but I was just too bored and had to change the channel to Food TV Network.

Maybe we should make a Spoilers topic?

Response to movies

I read a lot of boards that talk about movies and/or even tv shows that are taped ahead of time and some of the posters have access to the tapings before they are aired. These people like to post about what they saw but usually include 'spoiler' in the topic. Some even talk about the basics and have a cool link that will then go on to talk about the ending/spoiler. I like those ideas. Saying to go out and see it sooner isn't really fair. Everyone should be able to go when they want and not have to worry that someone who is a bit insensitive will post something and ruin it for them. Let's not blame the victims.

Laura, I saw "Message in a Bottle." It was overtly manipulative, but I was in the mood for that when I saw it and so I loved it. Besides, I like the cast very much. As for the ending, I wish it hadn't ended that way. I mean, I can suspend my disbelief and buy that whole "message in a bottle" thing, but the ending seemed unnecessarily contrived.

Response to movies

I started to watch "Message in a Bottle" the other night, but I decided it wasn't worth my staying awake. It did take away the heebie-jeebies I had from watching the first half hour of "Stir Of Echos" though. I'm not a huge Kevin Costner fan.

I did see "Cast Away" last night, and really enjoyed it.
