I thought I'd better let everyone know my forum wasn't hacked.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

My stepdaughter is staying for the holidays and she got her nose out of joint when I sent her to "her" room Friday afternoon. (It's also my computer room.) She deleted all my posts (and I think a few others) and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone. I guess this should be a lesson to me; I shouldn't leave my passwords displayed on the table!

Have a nice rest of the holiday everyone, I'm going to go take her shopping and have a nice, heartfelt heart-to-heart talk with her about right and wrong and revenge. (Even though I'm ticked off and feeling a bit vengeful myself! :-D

Kids these days have too much time on their hands and too much mischief on their minds. I think they should be required to go to school all year long except weekends and holidays.

Ahh, Net, clever girl your stepdaughter! Perhaps ready for a little extra stimulation, otherwise known as slave labor. Dishes, garbage, laundry until she's too tired to cause mischief. Still, it's very clever revenge.

Yet another reason to do regular backups...

That was cute, Casey. I like your idea about slave labor. (I wish I could do that!)

Sysman, backing up my stuff would take too much time and I never say anything important anyway ;-D I'm just sorry other people's posts went up in smoke too.

Wait! Come to think of it, the perfect punishment for her would be to make her read something that those posters recommend. Any suggestions posters?

Shoot. I got in a hurry and forgot I wanted to thank you for taking care of that for me, Z. The forum is toast but I appreciate you linking to it anyway.

While I'm here....

Sysman, I remember reading that you got in a car accident last year (or the year before?). Did you take the guy to court? The reason I ask is because a guy creamed me about a week ago (he got the tickets and totaled my car) and I've been suffering from headaches ever since. Is suing someone more hassle than it's worth? I'm comfortable financially, but I'll always take an extra buck. Besides, if I have to have these headaches for months or years because of his carelessness, I want him to suffer too.

Nettie, go see a lawyer tomorrow who specializes in this sort of event because laws vary from state to state. The initial consultation is free. Sysman's experience may differ significantly from yours, and if you really are hurting, it's worth talking to someone local.

net:

What state are you in? I know a few attornies. Sysman-your Jersey, right? Did you have representation and are you satisfied with the results so far?

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), January 01, 2001.

Nettie,

Come see us for your free consultation and diagnosis by our staff doctor. In cases like yours he usually concludes that those headaches will cause emotional distress for the rest of your life.

If you cry a lot on the stand and we win you will get $1 million!! ($10 million settlement less 40% doctor fee and 50% attorney fee).

Fine print: (if we lose you will owe us $1 million)

Hi FS. I live in a small town south of Chicago.

"if we lose you will owe us $1 million"

That's exactly the reason why I want to talk to someone who's already been through this stuff!

-- (Netsc@pe 6.0), January 01, 2001.

P.S.: Nettie, could you also tell your stepdaughter to come and see us? We think she has a good case for unlawful imprisonment and violation of her civil rights.

-- Shyster & Sons (another@cool.million), January 01, 2001.

Net, dear, go see a neurologist about your headaches. Do this independently of your decision to sue or not. You may have some other symptoms of brain injury over time. Brains heal, but get a specialist to take a look.

Net-I think it is sound advise to see a physician. If you would like a referral to an attorney I can find one for you in your area. My wife is an attorney and is connected with some folks out there.

Thanks for your advice everybody. I'm feeling much better today, and that seems to have been the pattern since the accident. The jerk that hit me caused me alot of inconvenience, but I'm pretty sure that's all it is. After I thought about it, I figured that guy is suffering alot as it is because 1)he has to pay those tickets 2)his insurance will go up 3)he's probably in trouble at work because he hit me with a company car. I think he'll already suffer enough, and my insurance will take care of any medical bills, and like I said, I don't really need the money.

After thinking about it since I posted yesterday, I decided I don't want to cause him any more trouble than he's already caused for himself. Shoot, I'm sure I've done things I need forgiveness for too. Thanks anyway, Helen and FutureShock!
