J-Phone West's services disrupted

OSAKA -- J-Phone West Co., an Osaka-based major mobile phone service operator, on Saturday said a partial failure in its network center switchboard temporarily disrupted services until early morning that day. The disruption, which included the use of e-mail, began at 11:18 p.m. Friday and is believed to have affected about 350,000 users in Osaka and Shiga Prefecture.

Services were restored at 2 a.m. Saturday, the officials said, adding that they believe there was a failure in the program that controls the switchboard.

The company services a large including the districts of Hokuriku, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa.

J-Phone West is one of the three J-Phone group cellular phone service providers.
