TMPG encoder version12b

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Anyone happen to know why the latest version of the TMPG encoder doesn't convert to MPEG2? I hear the earlier versions (12a) offered conversion to MPEG2 but this feature seems to be disabled on 12b. Anyone know about this or am I just doing something wrong?

hm.. I guess it does convert AVI/DivX/DV to MPEG2, BUT in SVCD Format. Have a look at this site: http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2mpg.htm

The newest version 12b or whatever it is called now is supposed to be build 0.11.20.104 and the older version 12a is build 0.11.20.97. Originally, when 12a was offered to the public as version 12b for version 12 beta. Now, it has swap to 12a and 12b to signify 1st and 2nd. Anyway, get the 0.11.20.97 build and you will be able to use MPEG2 encoding.

mpg2 was taken out of 12b because of the threat of royalty/legal action. whether it is put back sometime in the future does not look good. the last version with mpg2 support was 12a.
