When Is an Annulment Required

My sister is engaged to a man who was married years ago in the Anglican church. The marriage was very short and they divorced after a short time. Does he need an anullment of that first marriage to marry in the Catholic Church now?

Yes, or the marriage is invalid. It must be proved that his first marriage was invalid and that he is free to enter into marriage.

An anullment is also required, when you find out your wife is Bi- sexual. I just anulled my wife beacause I had no knowledge of her intentional sexual preferences. She is also manic, and that only escalates matters further.

Response to When Is an Anullment Required

Janet, I live in Australia. I have been divorced from my ex for 2 years now & I have met a wonderful man whom I plan to marry Feb 2002. My only dilema is that I need to get an anullment before I can get married in the Catholic Church. My future husband is not a Catholic & I don't think this is in our favor. In Australia it is easy to get an anullment if the marriage was under 2 years but it is tough it is over & if children are involved. I am having quite a hard time trying to re-live my awful first marriage. The anullment is not an easy process & you are re-living your past marriage. I just wanted to express my thoughts to you & wish your sister good luck in her challenge ahead. Regards, Suzana
