Caney Fork & Western (exL&N trackage) / XTRA covered hoppers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

My grandfather was an engineer on the NC&StL(later, the L&N)in middle Tennessee, retiring in 1944. The trackage thru Sparta, TN is now operated by the Caney Fork & Western (CFWR), a short line. A couple years ago Model Die Casting issued a set of 6 different covered hoppers, 2 #'s per road name. One of the 2-car sets was item # 7865, lettered for XTRA with a repaint of the road name to CFWR marks. I would like to get the set of CFWR cars; if anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

I was raised in Campaign, TN.that was on the Sparta Branch of the NC$St.L Railroad. (Now the CF$W Railroad) I would like to know what was your grandfather's name. My father was the engineer on the Nashville and Atlantic and knew many of the engineers on the N&C. The N & A was abandoned in 1927 and after returning from the service in 1945, I built a handle mill close to the railroad. The C F & W has few cars (mostly flats) and use cars from the CSX. May I hear from you ? Everett Brock
