New Year's resolutions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

Ok. Now that Christmas is over, urp, and we've all eaten too much and, oh my achin' head, drank too much, and our faces are sore from smiling, what are your New Years resolutions? No, not that one. The real ones. The ones you'll try and keep for oh say a day or two. No grandiose plans now. Just realistic resolutions. James

Ok. I'll go first. I resolve to "try", really try to quit yelling at all the idiotic, stupid, imbeciles on the road in front of me and not try and teach them sign language. I will "try" and stop procrastinating remodeling the house and finish the tile in the bathroom. I will "try" to keep the dogmobile clean(er). I will "try" to quit jumping out of the bushes with camera in hand taking pictures of girls blading on the boardwalk in their thongs at the beach. And I will "try" to quit being such a perv Floozie! (smile, wink) James

Paint the rest of the house. Not yell at my kid so much. Stop wishing evil things on people who irk me. Step away from the abyss and stop whining so much.

As one who is (1) recently separated, (2) learning of a new lifestyle and (3) living completely on her own for the first time, I resolve to figure out what it is that truly will make me happy, and then go after it. I will begin treating myself with the same kindness and generosity I treat others. I will prioritize my life so I can be a more peaceful and easygoing person. And I will find something I enjoy that has nothing to do with work, family, or the things I feel I *should* be doing.

Hmmm... I guess it would be to take up boxing because then I can work out all my anger on a bag of stuffing, rather than other people who don't deserve it. And I want to write a novel. Yes, a pulitzer prize winning novel. :)

I've told myself for the last 4 years that I was going to learn how to sew. I have this big vision of making my own wardrobe. I can't even sew on buttons, so I'm not sure why this is a goal of mine, it just is.

I've set and kept my resolutions since I started making them, two years ago. This time, I am looking to transform my career from one of providing support to one focused on creativity, whether in information systems or the arts, and I will become a recognized leader in my company. Sound too focused on work? They're not, because both involve fundamental growth and improvement in me, personally, before anything else can happen. Everyone can be better.

Learn how to wear makeup. I'm 28, for God's Sack, it's about time!

Why start wearing makeup now? I'm old enough to be your, er, "older sister" and still don't wear it. The few times I tried it, it seemed to just disappear so why bother? But I did just get acrylic nails so who knows what the new year will bring?

Oma, there is nothing wrong with learning how to put on makeup. It doesn't mean I have to wear it every day, but when I do, I don't have to look like a clown-faced freak. If I learn the correct way to apply it, maybe it will last a long time and look good until I remove it.

Good luck with your acrylics. Along with makeup, nail upkeep has never been a strength of mine. And actually, now that my mother keeps telling me to get my nails done because I have an engagement ring, I try even harder to not get them done. That'll show her.

Sorry, back on topic...

Erm, maybe it disappeared because you never learned to use it correctly.

I think it's wonderful that there are women who are confident enough in their looks to never wear makeup, but unfortunately I am not one of them. I don't wear it around the house, but when I'm going out I do. It gives me confidence, much like wearing a nice outfit instead of a gunny sack does, and I don't see anything wrong with it.

Anyway, back on topic: My New Year's resolution is to be on a workout schedule of at least three 45-minute workouts a week by the time June rolls around.

New Year's Resolution: Don't question the resolutions of others for no apparent reason.

Sorry I touched a nerve here. My comments to Ericka were made with tongue firmly in cheek. I'm all for everyone doing whatever they can to feel better about themselves. And yes, I never did learn to apply makeup properly but am fortunate that I have basically good skin (thanks Grandma). The rest of me is falling apart because I think the warrantee has expired.

On topic, I resolve to do more for me. Too much of my energy is spend doing things for other people.

I never make New Year's resolutions. Sometimes I do Lent, but never New Year's.

Resolution? I'm joining the City Employee's Union. Supposedly it's not a very strong union, and I don't live in a big union town blah blah unioncakes, but I don't care.

All my regular vices, I'm hanging on to, for the time being.
