greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I'll still be having a look around over the Xmas hols, normally once in the morning and once at night. Looking at the amout of postings here today, there's not gonna be many people around untill the new year. Anyone out there want to discuss the rumor on soccertalk abot BR quitting at the end of the season?

I'm around tomorrow, then have to head off Sunday to Kimberley, B.C. to visit the outlaws for a couple of days, then back on Boxing day. Just heard the good news, we get the Newton Heath match live on cable..woo-hooooo.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I'll be around most of the time - dipping in and out as possible.

I've been saying for a few weeks now that I think Bobby will quit at the end of the season. I see a man who is frustrated by his inability to compete in the transfer market to build a truly competitive squad.
If he is precluded from doing this then once he feels he has completed 'Phase 1' - which was to keep the Club in the PL and put them back on an even keel - then I think he will he wish to finally retire. He won't relish hanging around for the 4 or 5 years it will take to rebuild the squad with limited financial resources.

I suspect he's already told the Club, which will be why there are stories beginning to surface about them sniffing around potential replacements.

He could well finish up with a consultancy agreement with NUFC which would enable the Club, and his successor, to access his vast experience, and enable him wind down gradually.

I have to say I believe it's probable rather than possible.

Another thought - if BR has told the Club he is leaving at the end of the season, that would be another reason why they would be reluctanct to allow him to spend big bucks to bring in players a new manager might not value. The new blerk, of course, would want his own transfer budget. Just a thought!

So , If the rumors are true, then is it a Bring back Keegan? Or do we go for someone like Curbishly or Burley?

I found my Ntlsportsbar, it's on a link at the top of this toonworld page Toonworld I'll be in a two oclock for pre match drinks. You make your own username and password up to get in.

If Alison is around, have you anyidea how to upload to NBCI? I wanted to change the form address on the toonworld user menu but can't get in using the xoom upload details. It points to my old Globanet site that I can no longer access, and want to point it to my ntlsports site.

An even bigger question!

There aren't many viable alternatives - as England found. I'm assuming such an early appointment would rule out Alan Shearer, but wouldn't bank on it.

I couldn't see either Alan Curbishley or George Burleigh being interested in the job having built decent squads with their currrent Clubs, who have shown them great loyalty when things were difficult.

A lack of real alternatives could possibly lead to an approach for KK to make another sentimental return to SJP. However, I don't think there is any love lost between him and Fed & Doug, and very much doubt he'd take the risk of working for guys he doesn't like or respect.

I'll keep pondering - there's always John Gregory of course, and don't rule him out.

please can we put a THICK BLACK FELT TIP MARKER LINE through JGs name. Please. Go on. You know you want to...

-- Anonymous, December 23, 2000

min,

I suggest you write to Mr. Shepherd and ask him to take his marker to JG's name - his is the only one that counts. I suspect he might see Gregors as a kindred spirit - if you know what I mean.

The very thought of the pantomime gangster coming anywhere near NUFC makes me nauseous! If dressing room attitude has been questionable in recent years, he's just the one to destroy it altogether. *ptuh*

And to answer your question, Rik, I've no idea. Sowwy. Is there any kind of tech support you can email to ask them to send you upload instructions?

I'll be in and about most days - normally at this sort of time (23:30 UK time).
