Mesaba Airlines, which operates as Northwest Airlink, canceled 150 of its 850 daily flights yesterday because of a computer system outage which prevented flights from departing for about three hours.

The computer system started coming back on line about 5:15 p.m. and flights were being dispatched again. Mesaba said it expects to operate a full schedule today.

A spokeswoman said the airline worked closely with Northwest Airlines to make sure the inconvenienced passengers were accommodated, and she didn't think any would be stranded overnight. "Customers were unhappy but seemed to understand," she said.

Mesaba Airlines operates as a Northwest Airlink affiliate under code-sharing agreements with Northwest Airlines. Currently, Mesaba Airlines serves 104 cities in 28 states and Canada from its three hubs at Minneapolis/St. Paul, Detroit Metro and Memphis International Airports.

Passengers are encouraged to check the status of their flights via Northwest's website or by calling 800 441-1818.

Mesaba serves 104 cities in 28 states and Canada from Minneapolis-St. Paul, Detroit Metro and Memphis International Airport. It operates a fleet of 109 jet-prop and pure jet aircraft including the 30-34 passenger Saab 340 and the 69 passenger Avro RJ85.
