HELP

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

I have had some problems recently in sending email. I am told by some that the mail does not get thru even tho I don't always receive a "message returned" notification. Apparently I do get inbound messages.

Anyone who I have emailed recently (there are two of you) would please briefly REPLY if you did receive my email. My ISP has been totally unhelpful. Notice that I have a new address, altho the old one still works. Indynet got sold. Thanks.

Thinking further, if any of you would care to send a one line "hi" to the addy above, then I'll reply to it and if you receive my reply, I'd ask you to reply to my reply. That way I'd know that I'm sending and receiving. My ISP has been very uncooperative. Time to try DSL maybe but it's so expensive. Thanks.

Check your email in two minutes Lars!

-- Aunt__Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), December 21, 2000.

I sent ya one!

-- Peg (pegmcleod@mediaone.net), December 21, 2000.

Lars,

I use my Yahoo mail for ever-thin. I like it, six megs for free, and if you change your ISP (something I've done 4-5 times now) your mail address stays the same. Not too shabby.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 21, 2000.

AB and Peg. Thanks, but as of 7:30 EST I haven't received anything. I'll send you each a quickie, excuse the expression, and if you receive it, please acknowledge.

Unc, good idea. Are there any disadvantages to web-based email?

-- Lars (lars@onemain.com), December 21, 2000.

7:51 EST...

..didn't get no quickie ;) and I have a super quickie!!.. cable connection :)!!

-- Peg (pegmcleod@mediaone.net), December 21, 2000.

5:54 MST and you are a no show Lars!! I sent you two-one to each addy. I'm with unk on the yahoo thing. I've never had a problem with yahoo-very reliable! Why don't you try it lars-the only thing iss there are so many people who use, you may have a hard time coming up with an unused familiar name/addy for yourself...

-- Aunt Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), December 21, 2000.

If there are any downsides I don't know them Lars....well, the ONE I can think of is that it is a so-called "anonymous" service, so some people might think you are fly-by-night. Other than that, I love it. Yahoo even has a Norton Virus scan that scans your attachments before you download them. Heck, I'm going to need a remedial course to re- learn how to send email the old way, I've been at Yahoo so long now. It's so easy, any questions ask me Lars. (no that I know shit)

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 21, 2000.

NOT that I know shit, that is, hee hee.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 21, 2000.

Oh yeah, sometimes at peak hours the mail is slow, and every once is a great while it is down for a bit, unacessable for ten minutes or so, but over-all it is a good thing.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 21, 2000.

Good point about the scarcity of choice names, Bee.

Oh Lars, just for you I have registered cranky_old_prune@yahoo.com

Care to purchase it? For a nominal fee, of course. ;)

-- Rich (howe9@shentel.net), December 21, 2000.

Ladies, thank you but I have still received nought from you and you have received nought from me. Something naughty going on.

I will check the Yahoo option. Maybe I can be Lars778 or somesuch.

Rich, that was very thoughtful but I can't remember a name that long.

If the problem is in my ISP, then going to Yahoo, Hotmail, etc won't help, will it?

-- Lars (lars@onemain.com), December 22, 2000.

Lars-

I think yahoo or hotmail, will bypass your ISP's internal problem. Why don'tcha just take the plunge and see how it works with yahoo? After all, what have you got to lose by giving it a shot?? Nada, methinks.

-- Aunt Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), December 22, 2000.

Yes AB, I will do that but I don't understand the technology of it. To get to Yahoo, etc, I have to dial-up thru an ISP. If my ISP is the source of the problem to begin with, then won't it still be there once I reach Yahoo?. OK, OK, I'll try it. I just hate to lose my old addy is all.

-- Lars (lars@onemain.com), December 22, 2000.

Lars,

An ISP can provide internet connections to its customers yet have their email service non-functioning at the same time. Try Yahoo or Hotmail as a test. Those services bypass your ISP's mail server.

Oh yeah - Merry Christmas, Lars. :)

-- Rich (howe9@shentel.net), December 22, 2000.

Lars,

I recieved your email at 1:48 AM EST...of course I was not sitting here waiting for it...LOL.

Well, it worked but talk about sllllloooooooowwwwwwww...heh!

-- Peg (pegmcleod@mediaone.net), December 22, 2000.

received...duh, I was blinded by the snow :)

-- Peg (pegmcleod@mediaone.net), December 22, 2000.

Is it really snowing there, Peg? Will you have a white Christmas?

Sigh........(not that I ever had one in NYC, you understand)

-- Patricia (PatriciaS@lasvegas.com), December 22, 2000.

New York CITY?!?!?

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 22, 2000.

Yes, New York CITY. (Why do you say it like that?) I think we had one some years ago, but it's a blur. Doesn't usually snow there until January (a few years ago, I think it was New Year's Day that started the mass of blizzards).

It's pretty much a given that I won't have one HERE :-)

-- Patricia (PatriciaS@lasvegas.com), December 22, 2000.

Hi Pat,

Yup...it's snowing and it's snowing in NYC too! We're only going to get 1 to 3 inches and that's going on top of about 3 inches we got Wednesday. The girls are luving it.

And I hear that we will be having snow on Christmas day...that will be something...I can't remember the last time that it actually snowed on Christmas day...I'm gettin' all warm and fuzzy :)

-- Peg (pegmcleod@mediaone.net), December 22, 2000.

NEW YORK CITY????!!

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 22, 2000.

There's about 3-4 inches of snow here...just right for sledding, and the schools are closed. Woohoo! Sled time Baby!

-- kritter (kritter@adelphia.net), December 22, 2000.

WHITE Christmas here in NE ohio and windchills at sub zero...bout -21 to be exact.

Colder n a witches breast out there.

Schools open, office open, me at desk, snowing gently now, listening to christmas music dealing w/the Grinches who are calling :-(

-- sumer (shh@aol.con), December 22, 2000.

Unk, dearest, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!

(And Happy Friday.)

The ONLY time I really like snow is (you guessed it) at Christmas. There hasn't even been enough precipitation in the mountains to make them "snow-capped" (it's a hoot when the temp here in the valley is hovering around 100 and there's SNOW on the mountaintops surrounding).

Oh well, I have a good imagination (Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.....).

Glad they're getting snow in NYC -- as I said, it's kind of rare for Christmas.

-- Patricia (PatriciaS@lasvegas.com), December 22, 2000.

NEW YORK CITY???!!?!!

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 22, 2000.

Off!

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 22, 2000.

Pssst! Hey you....shhhh, don't tell Patricia, but it is the tag line to an Old El Paso Salsa TV advertisement....

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 22, 2000.

(Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...............[and the realization hits her that she's a dunce this AM])

-- Patricia (PatriciaS@lasvegas.com), December 22, 2000.

Lars, does this mean that you DIDN'T receive the nude photos that I sent??

-- cin (cin@cin.cin), December 22, 2000.

Unk, dontcha know they banned those commercials in NY. =)

-- cin (cin@cin.cin), December 22, 2000.

Actually, cin, they ran them every ten minutes or so when they were out. I swear, in one half hour, you'd see it at least two or three times.

They were funny the first sixty times.....the thrill was kind of gone after that :-)

-- Patricia (PatriciaS@lasvegas.com), December 22, 2000.

Yes Cin, thanks. You are very attractive. Don't ever be modest about your hairy back.

-- Lars (lars@onemain.com), December 23, 2000.

Unk... You're slipping! It was PACE Picante Sauce. (Get a rope!) J

-- Gayla (privacy@please.com), December 23, 2000.

LOL! Hey Gayla, here is a cut and paste from the Jimmy Bagga Doughnuts thread, so very fitting, don't you think?

Sorry about the speling, I misses Gayla, she kould ceep me in lyin mour than most others kud. Shoer wish sheed stuk arowend. Gayla, kom bake sune pleeze.

Thanks for keeping me in line, sweets!

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 23, 2000.

Oh thanks Lars. My back IS my best feature ya know. =)

-- cin (cin@cin.cin), December 23, 2000.

Ok, I did the Yahoo thing. I don't especially like signing in every time I go for email but I will stick with Yahoo for a while. I don't travel much so the portability feature is nearly irrelevant.

I still have the same ISP so still have the lars@indy.net and lars@onemain.com addresses. Anyone who sends me a "hi" at Yahoo will, in due time, get a response. Thanks for all the advice.

-- (larsguy@yahoo.com), December 23, 2000.

Lars, yahoo has a nice homepage that you can personalize to your liking. I enjoy mine.

-- cin (cin@cin.cin), December 23, 2000.

Cin--

Do you mean I can trim it in my theme color, burgundy? And I can put up logos for the Indy Colts and the Wis Badgers? Maybe a lil cheesecake? WOW!
