Newcastle United manager Bobby Robson has, according to reports, thrown media critics into turmoil by making a $13.5m bid for Barcelona striker Dani.

The £9.4m offer was lodged with Nou Camp officials on Thursday morning as Robson, desperate for a striker targets the Spanish striker, who turns 26 on Friday.

Robson has offered Barcelona their money back on the striker who signed for around £10m in the summer of 1999 from Real Mallorca - Marcelino's old club.

Quite how Robson has got his hands on that type of cash remains to be seen.

If this bid fails, Robson's wanted list also contains Blackburn Rovers' Egil Ostenstad, Benfica's Pierre Van Hooijdonk (despite the official line about the £5m price tag) and Wimbledon's Marcus Gayle.

Not sure about the player but I reckon the story is a load of crap. If we had that sort of money to spend we would have bought a centre back and a cheaper striker before now.
