Dry Mounting with Seal Buffer Mount

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread

Recently I started using Seal Buffer Mount which is removable. That is, it sets up upon cooling and if reheated will allow unmounting of a print. I often mount prints larger than my dry mount press which with MT5 is no problem. You just mount as much as will fit in the press at one time. But with Seal Buffer Mount, after the first part cools and you put the next part into to press, the first part releases again.

I am using the stuff to mount Lightjet and Fujichrome prints. Does any one have any experionce with this problem? Thanks

I use the Seal Buffer-Mount (formerly Archival-Mount) for all my black-and-white work, and regularly mount larger prints that my press accepts. I use a 4-ply cover sheet of regular cotton rag board and press for at least 5 minutes at 200 degrees. The print is then removed and placed under a platen to weight the print while it cools. The mounting tissue adheres as it cools. After a bit of a wait to let the print cool, I repeat the procedure on the next section. The 4-ply board prevents pressing lines on the print and I rarely have sections release. If they do, it's because I didn't let them cool enough before returning the print to the press. With this stuff you can keep trying till it works. Hope this helps, ;^D)
