Case for Cort

Right I just have to get this off me chest. Around the time that Carl Cort signed there was no shortage of detractors - and I mean doubters about the lad's ability, not just the price we were paying for him. Since he got injured I've sat in silence while, regular as clockwork, some folk on here have variously written him off as not being quality. Well I'm putting my hand up here to say I reckon Carl Cort will do an excellent job when he returns to full fitness. IMO he's already a 15-20 goals a season PL striker, and in addition will cause defences a lot of trouble - allowing a top class striker alongside him to net even more. You read it here first. Cort has the potential to be an England regular. All that's needed is a little patience and support on our part. Are ye with me or agin me ?

Loony mate, IMHO that Cort`s game is more suited to the auld Wimbledon new Hackem type of football on which he did thrive, if the toon resort to that type of football he will do okay. If YBR or whoever plays the passing, fast moving game , one of the main requirements being a pacy mobile CF as discussed on here after Euro 2000 at great length I have my doubts. This ties in with my argument about a set business plan for the club, what direction we go on and off the park, in relation to transfers, buying , tactics , team building, what we really want the finished article to look like, not filling in the cracks as we have done for years, for eg Dunc is going, get someone in similar to do the job which tends to contradict what I am saying, oh well thats me - confusing at time but I think most on here know what I mean

Cort had a relatively injury free time at Wimbledon and this is his first major injury. He aggravated it by coming back too early in an effort to prove to us fans that he was worth the outlay.

It's not as if he has been with us for years and keeps getting injured, give him a chance, I say. When he has played over 20 games and has only got a couple of goals then maybe and only then we should start to worry.

We still need another striker anyway, whether or not Cort is fit.

In the Cort case, I think a man is innocent until proven guilty. His goals record is good and from the small amount of him I've seen I thought he looked quite nimble on his feet, so might add a lot more than just the big target man figure.

I'm sure he'll do well and he will be most welcome when he returns. I won't say anything bad about a player who has not yet had a chance to show us what he can do.

If naything he is nowhere near the target man his height suggests. He said when he came here that his game was about more than that and in fact he wasn't that great a header of a ball.

Something for Al to teach him then!
