Appeal for motorists to resist panic petrol buying

Tasmania's fuel suppliers are urging motorists not to begin panic buying, as the state's fuel supplies dwindle.

The supply of unleaded fuel is drying up, with reports of some service stations running out completely.

But fuel companies say they have supplies to last through Christmas, with tankers expected later this week and next.

Samantha Potts from Mobil, says the shortage is due to breakdowns at refineries around Australia, with shortages in every state.

"We've had a run of bad luck with a number of refineries." Ms Potts said.

"BP has had problems in Brisbane and Caltex had an unplanned shutdown in Sydney," she said.

These things tend to roll on to other states, as we have to move supply around to try and keep cities in supply."

Again, thanks Cave Man...

The sad part is that nobody is really 'noticing' yet, IMHO.

OTOH, soon I guess we'll have no choice but to notice?
