Chinese Families in SF in the 1880's

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

My daughter and I are looking for information about the lives of Chinese families in SF around 1880. How was a chinese laundry run during that time? What was Chinatown like? What did it look like? What kind of schooling did the children receive? Thanks for any information.

Would recommend Lani Ah Tye Farkas' book "Bury My Bones In America" - The Saga of a Chinese Family in California 1852 to 1996; Publisher is Carl Mautz Publishing, Nevada 1998.

You can also contact Melissa Szeto, Director of the Chinese Historical Society of America, at 415-391-1150, or at info@chsa.org

Good luck with your research!
