Can I make VCDs that will play on my Pioneer Laser Disc Player? : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I own a Pioneer Laserdisc Player that I bought in 1991. $800 bucks!!

Can I use specific software to create a VCD that will play in my laser disc player from Snazzi captured MPEG-1 footage?

I would appreciate any and all comments!

I think you're totally out of luck here. Laserdisc players could read a format known as CD Video which is NOT the same as VCD or SVCD. I don't know of anyone who knows how to make something in the CD Video format that laserdisc players understand, nor do I know anything about the format itself. You'd really be better off to give up trying to do something in this dead format and worry about how to make VCDs or SVCDs as those are likely to be supported for some time to come.

Haze, unless your Laserdisc player SPACIFICALLY says that it plays VCD's, there is no way to make a video disc that will play on it. Concerning CD Video (which is basically a laserdisc on CD---meaning uncompressed video in the shape of a CD), you CANNOT make those. Those are a proprietary format used by laser disc and there is no known software in existance that will make those for you on a computer. Even if there was, you would only be able to hold like 15 minutes or less so it's impractical as well as impossible.

Alternatively, upgrade your machine with "add-on" board. It'll cost around $150.00. I'd mine done 3-4 yrs ago in Sydney.
