Just made the news.KIRSTY MacCOLL KILLED IN SPEEDBOAT ACCIDENT
Singer Kirsty MacColl has been killed in a speedboat accident in Mexico. Kirsty, 41, was best known for the 1987 Christmas song Fairytale of New York with The Pogues.
She was apparently swimming off the coast of Mexico when she was run over by a speedboat.
South American influence
She released her first single They Don't Know in 1979, later a big hit for Tracy Ullman, and shot to fame two years later with There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop (Swears He's Elvis).
This year she returned to the charts with In These Shoes? and released a South American-influenced album, Tropical Storm. She spent much of her time in Cuba, Mexico and Brazil.
She was separated from producer husband Steve Lillywhite, with whom she had two children, and was the daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl.
No-one was available at her record company, V2, for comment.
