Why?

Taking into account as I am sure a few will the previous weeks result. the fear of slipping down the table. and anything else that may come to mind was Marcellino preferred to Caldwell, was it committment, match fitness? nah, was it experience , was Caldwell injured, tell me as I question YBR judgement on this one. The impact on a young player in a highly specialist position could be damaging to his future .

Bradford at home was an ideal opportunity for the youngster to gain more confidence in himself, same applies to Glass, give him 5 full games on the trot, not good enough, get rid . The foreign players are allowed time to adjust to the pace of the PL, surely the ones moving up from the reserves and others making brief cameo apps are allowed the same. The word fear comes into my mind , why I do not know.

I thought this was a strange choice as well. Maybe Caldwell was shell-shocked after last week. Shop window for Maecelino?

This was a game that we HAD to win. That's why Shearer was played. I wouldn't be surprised if YBR rests Shearer for games he thinks we'll lose anyway.... just a thought

My thoughts exactly Geordie. We'll never sell Marcelino if he doesn't play and the Spanish window is only open for a short while. Caldwell will bounce back. He's a good player - let's just hope his next game isn't against ManUre (tho why I should worry about that, I dunno).

As for Shearer, I think I commented something similar yesterday (but in my state, I couldn't remember what I'd posted - alcohol, bah!).

Marcelino played to show that, on paper, he had gone through a full 90 minutes. The possible Spanish buyers aren't going to be influenced by his performances as they all remember how good he was at Mallorca, they just need proof of his fitness.

I thought Shearer should have gone off when we were two up and the game was won :0) I was horrified at him taking the ball into the corner flag as a time wasting, and ankle kicking, exercise.

The really curious thing Buff is that Caldwell wasn't even on the bench. In fact, we didn't have a single defender on the bench!
Harper, Acuna, LuaLua, Cordone, Glass. No mention of Caldwell being injured, so it's rather strange - still issues with his contract perhaps?

It falls in line with your "nil communications theory" Clarky, did Bobby have a wee word with the lad following on from Arse, was he injured ? desperate to put Marcellino in shop window for the readies, Still if they employed excellent communications instead of leaving us with the weekly imponderables the next question would be `Why do we need this forum`, nah carry on Newcastle, why break a habit of a lifetime, been kept in the potting shed for years.
