EOS A2E or Elan 7E and what is QD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am looking to buy either the EOS A2E or Elan 7E as a gift. Would anyone that has any experience with one or both of these cameras offer suggestions of which is better for an amateur to intermediate photographer. Also, what does the QD mean in regards to model types?

Thank you for your help.

"QD" stands for "quartz date", meaning a camera back-plate that has the ability to emit a tiny amount of light onto each frame of film, in which the date (and possibly, the time) will then be imprinted.

Both are great cameras. The A2E is an older design that is aimed at advanced amateurs to professionals. The Elan 7 is a brand new design and is more for beginners to advanced amateurs. There is obviously some overlap in their intended audience.

The A2E has a real spot meter. The Elan 7 has an easier interface and better flash system. If I was giving a gift of one of these, I'd make it the Elan 7. It's the one pointing towards the future.

QD is a non-stater. I have removed the QD battery from my EOS 5s because I fear that when I am taking that shot of President Bush running nude through the Rose Garden that it will imprint the date and spoil my good fortune.
