Fulham v Liverpool

Anyone see Fulham v Liverpool last night?

I thought Saha was basically doing much the same he did for us but now he is probably twice as strong and can put himself around a bit more, also he is getting the supply to score goals many strikers in the Prem could.

Lee Clark played well and looks very comfortable on the ball and an excellent distributor of the ball. I was impressed by his midfield partner Davis.

Basically Fulham had loads of possession but failed to score. They are very good at passing the ball along the back line which accounted for a lot of their first half possession, but they really failed to penetrate the Liverpool defence. I suspect most of the teams in the 1st Div cannot handle the passing of Fulham but the Premiership is a bit different.

Saw most of the second half of e.t. Maybe they just ran out of steam a bit. They must have done well enough to keep it to 0 - 0 after 90.

Agree they looked pretty comfortable. One back heel from Clark to keep a move going made me sit up and take a bit more notice.

I think 3 flattered Liverpool a bit, though, from what I saw.

Most of the game was pretty average stuff, although Fulham did look good in bursts.....they were unlucky to fall behind to the Owen goal, and after that they were so intent on going forward for an equaliser they left massive gaps at the back, and Liverpool were able to walk through them with ease.......3-0 definitely flattering....1-0 would have been a fair reflection.......

It was pleasing that Fulham continued to play football and not hoof it up the field, even when 3-0 down. They will do ok next season. Liverpool looked solid in defence - ok, they had 10 men behind the ball, but were comfortable in soaking up the pressure and keeping the attack at bay around the midfield.

3-0 was flattering, but they were all good goals. Murphy looked handy. I would be seriously pissed off with Bob Interesting Wilson if I was a Scouser though - he was next to saying they were lucky bar stewards.

It was a canny game tactically, without a great deal of goalmouth incident until ET. I actually thought Fulham controlled the game quite well - again until ET, when Liverpol took control and steam-rollered Fulham.
I thought Gerrard was excellent throughout, and Barmby and YMO made a big difference when they took over from Fowler & Heskey - livening Liverpool up considerably and making them much more direct.

Houiller's tactics are imponderable - he seems to prefer to play with no wide m/f men and no FB's (4 CB's), and they just try to play straight through the middle. Fowler looks well past it, and they are beginning to become very dependent on Heskey.

Fulham play a very patient passing game and retain possession very well. The youngster Sean Davis looks a terrific player in the m/f anchor role. Fulham generally lacked penetration, with Hales well policed by Hyppia (what a great player this lad is, and wouldn't he look great in B&W?), and I thought Saha was naive in possession, and didn't actually look that much better than when he was here.
