OR - Cut cable disrupts telephone serviceBLUE RIVER - Phone service to Blue River and McKenzie Bridge failed for several hours Tuesday because of a severed cable.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m., area residents could only call within their 822 prefix area. Calls outside the 822 prefix area didn't go through and calls to Blue River resulted in a busy signal.
Qwest spokesman Michael Dunne said it wasn't known exactly how the cable was cut, but service was restored by 3:30 p.m.
Emergency calls during the five-hour phone failure had to be routed through the rural fire district dispatch radio to the Eugene 911 call center.
