This is an image of Dave Doughman from the Dayton, OH band Swearing at Motorists, taken on 12/01/00 at Middlebury College in Vermont. I was talking with Dave before the show and playing around with the self-timer on my FM-2, setting it for different times so he couldn't pose. Of course, he didn't stay still, either. As much as this photo looks like an accident, I'll still call it a happy one, since I think the result is at least kind of interesting.

I'm interested to hear your responses.

Other photos of the show are here: http://www.vermontindie.homestead.com/swearingatmotorists.html

I don't connect with this photograph, not that this is necessarily an ineffective or weak photograph. It doesn't cause me to think or ponder anything after I look at it for a few seconds. Of course, I hate to be the first or only one to offer a negative opinion, and I hope you realize I offer it with respect. Your post title screams out to be a part of the photograph's impact but it fails and thus seems to negatively affect the photograph itself. I don't know. I'll be waiting for others to post their responses. And having a frozen brain most of the time, I'm bound to change my mind!

As I keep saying: alone, many of the images we post here are rather lacking. As part of a series, however, this could be quite striking.

Thanks for the responses.

As far as putting this in a series goes, I don't have any similarly themed photos from the show, but maybe a few images of Dave playing guitar might work. Or maybe not.

I looked at the link you posted and IMO the shot you posted here is the weakest one of them all. I really liked the others (especially Dave 3 & 7 )but, sorry, this one looks to me like an accident.
