Real Media to Avi (or MPEG)??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I'm trying to conert Real Media to AVI. I've been trying to use Snagit and capturing the real media window, however the picture seems to freeze up or slow down. I was wondering if anybody knows how I can resolve this or have a more efficient way of converting rm to avi. Thanks -marc

Real Media Files were NEVER INTENDED to be used for ANYTHING but streaming internet media. If it is your intention to do this be prepared to spend hours and hours and still have a terrible result. The ONLY program out there is one for converting real audio. It is called ra2wav. You might find it on a shareware site. As far as video, a screen capture utility of some kind. But it WILL NOT look good at all! If at all possible, GIVE IT UP!

well quite opposite from you i have made good results using the snagit. Maybe it is just the strength of your PC? I never had it crash and never had anykind of problem. the pic looks virtually the same as what i was watching, and if i do need to speed or slowthings down, virtual dub comes in handy for this.
