Can old Speedlite 188A (for FD cameras) be used on Elan 7e?If it can be used, is it a bad idea?

The 188A can be used on Canon EOS cameras and it will do all that it was designed to do when attached to A series Canons. It will set your shutter to it's max sync speed (1/125) and you will have to set the camera's aperture according to what the flash dictates.You loose TTL metering, auto fill flash, etc. but it works fine.
