He might be happy to hear we've pretty much guessed as much.

Keep on walking, Domo (sic)

I'm was thinking of Christmas shopping for my loved ones today.
I can't think of anything but sheep's hearts now.
Domi should hang his head. I don't rate him as a footballer ( although he's one of the three class players we have, the others - Dyer n Solano). I don't rate him as a man. F*ck you Domi!

"I have been playing far below my potential this season. We don't do much training here and that's not what I need. I've still got a long way to go before I reach my best here."

Is it any wonder why so many players are injured. Also if he had pulled his finger out and played to his potential we might not be in the chuffing big mess we are in now. How far have we come in twelve months?

-- Anonymous, December 12, 2000

It's because we have so many injuries that we aren't training so much although that's maybe a vicious circle.

Seem a bit funny to me. All the fit players should be working their bollocks off in training to get them to peak fitness.

I don't get the idea of pampering them just to get them through in the short term because you end up paying for it in the long term.

Trouble is it seems to have been the same under several managers, so where is the common denominator? Training ground, Fitness coach (Is it the same one?), Physio?

Something needs to be done.

>>>>>>We don't do much training here (Domi, allegedly)

Is this true? Do we do less than on the continent? I seem to recall Ravenelli saying something similar at Boro (but I thought he was just speaking for himself!)
Is this one of the problems with the English game? YBR has worked all over the place so he should have a good idea about these things.

Interesting. So what is the training regime and how does it compare to other clubs? Is it because Bobby keeps giving the team time off when he doesn't want to risk fresh injuries? Perhaps they should be spending that time in the weight room or pool working on fitness?

I remember an interview with Rijkaard during Euro2000 conducted by Ruud Gullit in which Rijkaard said that he couldn't believe how little training the English-based players expected to do and Gullit said that this is because there are so many games in England.

Di Canio always complains that there is not enough training in England and he actually does more himself.

So the foreigners come over here super fit and they are not made to train as much, hence the injuries.

It would seem that the British based player do not have the levels of fitness required to match the new high paced Premiership. So when they are asked to 'up it' they can't handle it.

Overpayed British Prima Donnas? Never thought I'd hear mesel' saying that.

ps. we all know what that other fans' fave, Hammann said about our training regime.

I did find it a bit dispiriting at the the training ground to see that YBR was leading the players in physical jerks. If your benchmark of fitness is to keep up with a 67 year old (however special) then the injury record is fairly easy to explain. In mitigation, this was not long after he'd taken over so he was possibly being a lot more hands-on to get their attention. Don't know what the current situation is. Steph?

You can't neglect the fitness side of things in Football. We may need to improve the technical side in the English game and maybe Bobby has a bee in his bonnet about the technical level so much he has neglected the fitness? It's all opinion but we might be on to something here.

YBR has been away from the Premiership for some time now.

Sorry that should read 'he had been away from the Premiership for some time'

>>>>>So the foreigners come over here super fit and they are not made to train as much, hence the injuries.

Hmmm, does that explain Marcelino's finger injury? I wonder what he was doing at the time?

-- Anonymous, December 12, 2000

As I'm sure many on here will know(?!), when you have a certain level of fitness and lose it, it is always so hard to get back. This is probably the case for loads of players that join an English club from abroad.

As for our lot, you can't reclaim what you never had in the first place.

However, according to the Pink (I think)- we have an ex-Marine doing our fitness training (called Paul summat). He says that Cahrvet was about the fittest bloke he's ever seen. And the fastest.

-- Anonymous, December 12, 2000

Well I guess he should know a thing or two about training Marines but what about footballers?

I guess he is only doing what he is told!

-- Anonymous, December 12, 2000

"He says that Charvet was about the fittest bloke he's ever seen."

Ooooooh, get her ducky...

-- Anonymous, December 12, 2000

Screach, Marcelino's injury was caused by a mis-translation of the phrase "get your f(&^%ing finger out!!!".

-- Anonymous, December 12, 2000

fyi - Paul Whinsper.

Teamtalk today have Didier Domi refuting claims on football.365 that he wants away.

They say: Today, the Frenchman has angrily denied reports that he has his heart set on either a move to PSG or Marseille. Domi has admitted that, while being depressed by his current form, he is intent on proving himself at St James' Park.
"I am happy at Newcastle, but I am not happy at the way I am playing. I know I still have a long way to go before Newcastle United fans see me at my best.
"

Well, someone is telling porkies!!

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2000

I always liked Domi. Nice to see at least one player who wants to remain at the club ;-)

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2000

If we're so unfit, how is that most of the foreigners who sign for English clubs say it's going to take them a while to adjust to the pace of English football ?

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2000

Pace can slow down as well as speed up.

They probably think the game is much harder but they do less training, wtf is all that about?
