Songs for Lovin?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

Hi everyone,

Due to my broke-ness, I'm turning to homemade mix tapes and CD's and other non-expensive goodies for Christmas, and hoped maybe the folks here could offer some suggestions for songs for said tapes. I'm mainly looking for some ideas for a "sexy" tape for my S.O. (or rather, the one I wish was my S.O...heh) I have a few thoughts of my own but hoped for some people with a more vast musical repertoire than my own to help me out. One request: no country!

P.S. I work part-time for a DJ company so procuring the songs won't be so much of a problem...it's thinking of them beyond my own Sonic Youth myopia that's the hard part. :)

"Waiting for the Miracle" by Leonard Cohen turns me on. It's his voice, definitely does things to my body! But it's not a really "sexual" song, not like "Feelin' Love" by Paula Cole, which I think it one of the sexiest songs, but has been way way way overused. I used to love that Paula Cole song, and then all of a sudden it was everywhere-my little sister's dance team at junior high even did a routine to it! It lost a lot of it's sensual feel for me after that.

"Mad About You" by Sting. Incredible. :) I'm a huge Leonard Cohen fan as well so I'll recommend "Take This Longing" by him. It absolutely oozes sensuality.

Let's cut to the chase, shall we?

"Let's Get it On" by Marvin Gaye

God yes, re: Leonard!

Wicked Games by Chris Isaak is also pretty hot.

The only song mentioned so far that is NOT on my office computer is the Sting one...heh heh heh, I never realized what a den of sex this little office was! No wonder I have so many visitors...and yet, so little actual sex going on. Maybe I need bigger speakers?

Sexual Healing. If you can get a copy of the karaoke version that Djb from MBTV does, so much the better. If not, I suppose the original will do. I also suggest "Kiss" and "Sex Bomb."

What?! No mention of Barry White? The Love God? Am I showing my age, again here? And I don't care if you said "No Country" or not...listen to Patty Loveless sing "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" and make up your own mind. Country singer, yeah. Country music, no. Real torchy, real sexy, real come-hither, if you're male. Which, the last time I checked, I was. I've always liked "Higher Love" by Steve Winwood, too. But you really can't beat the REAL old stuff by Sarah Vaugh, Ella Fitgerald, Brook Benton for downright "Smear by body up with buttah!" let's-get-horizontie-in-a-hurry-music.

Kathleen, I saw Melissa Etheridge do "Let's Get It On" years and years ago in concert. Then I found out she is a Lesbian. That kinda altered my recollection some. :-) But it was still damn sexy when she did it. I don't know how anyone could perform that song in a non-sexy way, even if they tried.

Speaking of lesbians singing sexy songs, KD Lang's "Constant Craving" is pretty damn sexy.

I agree w/ the Barry White, hee.

Sting's 'I Burn For You,' from the 'Brimstone and Treacle' soundtrack. I'm, uh, gonna go call my husband now.....

So many songs, so little time to dig them all up out of my memory, scan CD titles, compile and return to work in order to list them all here...on the company dime...sigh. Well, here's a small list. Note my grading system. S = "Sexy." S+ = "Hooo-waa/Quite Sexy". KBD = "Katie, Bar the Door!!" NS = Not Sexy. NSBF = "Not sexy, but fun."

K.D. Lang is awesome, and I'll add "Save Me" to "Constant Craving." S. Donny Hathaway, a deceased soul singer that few people mention these days...very much on the order of Marvin Gaye, Ben E. King, etc. The song is "Je Vous Aime Beaucoup." S+. Jeff Buckley, another deceased- and-taken-from-us-in-his-prime vocalist/songwriter, wrote "Grace," "Hallelujah," and "Last Goodbye." They take me to another plane. S+. Marvin Gaye's live and studio versions of "Distant Lover." KBD. Desree's "Kissing You." S. Billie Holliday's "Lover Man." S+. Stevie Wonder.."Looking for Another Pure Love," {God Bless Jeff Beck!!} "Ribbon In The Sky," and "I Don't Know Why I Love You." S+. Aretha Franklin. "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man." S+. Lyle Lovett may sing country, but that man can do it all, including a soft, sultry jazz tune, any day of the week. Check out "All My Love is Gone," and a few other tunes from Joshua,Judges, Ruth. S+. This awesome little-known band from Cincinnati, Ohio, called Over The Rhine, writes beautiful, skin-wobbly ballads like "Lullaby" that are S+. The first couple of albums by Portishead and Mazzy Star and the "acoustic" sessions of Sarah MacLachlan kick arse! S+. Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly," did stuff to me when I was much to young to have them kinda feelins, if ya know whut I'm sayin and I think you do. S. The Ren and Stimpy soundtracks could bring the fun back into sex, so I gotta mention them. NSBF. And one last, "oh mercy," for, again, "Let's Get It On." Oooowee, KBD!

Thank you for your attention.

Dave

"Constant craving"?!? Dang, I always thought she was singing "constant gravy." A concept that I'm sure at least some of you will find irresistably erotic... :-)

Barbara Wood "Hello Stranger", Blue Eye's by Elton, That song by KD....yeah! and any love song by Sarah McLachlan. And I saw Roberta Flack in person years ago sing "Killing Me Softly" and I cried. It was awesome and I've seen most of the great ones in concert. There are so many. James
