Which flash units should I use with the CoolPix 990

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I am looking for advice on what flash to purchase for my new Nikon CoolPix 990 digital camera.

Can you recommend good, better and best?

Must I use a NIkon flash to get the right results?

Whichever flash you use for the Nikon 990 you should use a voltage reducing device. Nikon sells a short cord 3 pin to hot shoe. Then you should attach a cord that has a voltage reducer in it. Any Sync voltage over 6 volts will fry the cameras circuit. Paramount Cords has hot shoe cords with a voltage reducer to fit most flashes. Their site http://www.paramountcords.com/vp.htm

Paramount now manufactures sync cords For CoolPix Cameras

Paramount Cords now manufactures sync cords for the Nikon Coolpix digital cameras. The Paramount CoolPix cords have the Nikon 3 pin screw in connector and a built in voltage suppressor to protect the cameras, which are sensitive to the high sync voltage of most flash systems. With these cords, you can safely connect your favorite flash (instead of just the dedicated Nikon Speedlights) http://www.paramountcords.com/coolpix.htm phone
